Below you will find a list of sites
which offer free music (MIDI and WAV) files. Each site on
the list has been reviewed by myself, and they are sorted
starting with the best ratings (out of 5). I will never post
a site which I have not manually visited to verified its quality.
To visit any site on the list, simply click on the site title
(link) and the page will open in a new window. Simply close
the new window to be returned to this page.

| Here's a site
that hosts thousands of classic (and modern) video game
music files, all for free. Simply use the 'menu' drop-down
to select a game console, then select an alphabet range
to see all of the files available. Right-click any file
to download it. Of course, none of these are the original
game music, each has been carefully re-done and put
into computer form by loyal fans! |

| On this site
you will find a massive collection of MIDI-composed
music, based on popular songs by popular artists. Nearly
all mildly-famous musicians are on the list, and there
are a variety of songs under each singer's name. Navigation
is easy, just click the link for the musician you want
to hear, then click on any one of the song files that
appear. Again, these files are not made by the actual
artists, but fans. |

| Although generally
it is advised not to use WAV files in websites or auction
ads, this site contains many great sound effects in
WAV format. Although the site advertises a CD with sound
effects on it, they also offer dozens and dozens of
free files in a variety of categories (human, nature,
general, vehicles, etc.) Just click the appropriate
category, and you can then download or listen to each
file. No pop-ups, easy navigation! |

| A very simple,
what-you-click-is-what-you-get type site. There are
several dozen MID files, just right-click any one and
select 'Save Target As' to download it, or simply click
it if you want to hear it (requires Quicktime or another
MIDI player). No pop-ups here :) |

| Although the
site hasn't been updated for quite some time, the MIDI
files still work perfectly. Most of the files here are
related to Native Americans or other 'tribal' tunes.
There are also links on this page that lead to various
other music sites. A pop-up appears upon enetering the
site, and there may be some errors generated initially.
All MIDI files should work fine. |

About.COM section. The link provided takes you to a
section which lists dozens of MIDI songs people have
composed, along with general information about it such
as the author's name, e-mail address, etc. To download
or listen to any song, just click on the title of it.
There may be pop-ups from time to time. |

main categories to select from on this site, mainly
'Classic' or 'Original'. Once you select a main category,
you will find a rather extensive list of MIDI files
which can be saved to your computer or clicked on to
listen. Very easy to navigate site, and clean. It may
be a little difficult to find a file you are looking
for due to the way they are categorized. |

a wide variety of music files, if you can find them.
I had difficulties using the left-side navigation bar,
but the links near the bottom of the page (music categories)
took me to a list of files, each of which can be clicked
and listened to or downloaded. There are quite a few
pop-ups, which may interfere with your browsing experience. |

offers links to other (external) sites which offer MIDI
files. The sites it links to are usually posted by authors
or composers of MIDI music, and not all of the links
are still available. There is a brief description and
rating next to most links. |

offering over 3,000 MIDI files free of charge. Navigate
to the section you want by using the menu on the left,
then click on the song you want to here that will appear
in the main window. No pop-ups, but the site does use
frames so be sure to use a mildly new browser (4.0 or

offers around 30 MIDIs, but each works fine and the
site loads quickly. Simply right-click on any link and
select, 'Save Target As' to save the file(s) to your
hard drive. No pop-ups, clean site. |

largest online collection of classical music on the
net. The reason for the '2' as a rating is simply because
you must be a member to listen or download the thousands
of files available. There is free registration with
limitted download access, and a membership. Other than
that, the site is fairly easy to navigate but due to
the large number of songs available it still can be
a little tedious trying to find the correct song. |

the 'Royalty Free MIDI Files' link above, this site
offers a few (not nearly as many) popular songs and
themes. It is hosted on Geocities, thus there are pop-ups.
Navigation is real easy, just click on the link you
want to hear or download. |
