Below you will find a list of sites
which offer free image hosting that is compatible with eBay
and other auction sites. Each site on the list has been reviewed
by myself, and they are sorted starting with the best ratings
(out of 5). I will never post a site which I have not manually
visited to verified its quality. To visit any site on the
list, simply click on the site title (link) and the page will
open in a new window. Simply close the new window to be returned
to this page.
NOTE:
I had a similar list posted on my previous site back in January
of 2003. At that point, I had a full list of twenty sites
offering free image hosting services. Since then, a large
majority of those sites have turned commercial. In time, more
and more currently free services will switch to pay-only,
due to the cost involved with hosting images efficiently.
I will do my best to keep the free list up-to-date with free
auction-compatible image hosting solutions.

|
| This site allows
free uploading and storing of images and is compatible
with eBay and other auction sites. For free you will
receive 25MB of disk space. Individual images which
are larger than 250KB are automatically resized. The
site is very easy to navigate and loads quickly. For
a small fee you can register to obtain a lot more space
and FTP upload capabilities. |

|
| This image
hosting service is compatible with WebTV, along with
all auction sites and much more. The free service allows
you to upload and use up to 25 images, where-as paying
users get much more space. Getting the link for each
picture is easy, and the images are not resized unless
they are incredibly oversized. |
| |
|
| Here's a quick
image hosting service that doesn't require any signup.
You can store up to 100 images at a time, and none of
them will be removed unless they don't receive a single
hit for an entire month. Each image can be a maximum
of 750KB when you upload it. |
|
|
| ImageShack
is a free image hosting service which allows you to
upload one image at a time. Once the picture is uploaded,
you will be shown three different code snippets, each
of which can be copied to your clipboard automatically
by using the corresponding buttons found on the page.
A really nice feature of this hosting service is that
your images will not be deleted unless they haven't
been viewed by anyone for over a year! |
|
|
| A fantastic
image hosting solution which offers 10MB of free space,
an easy to use uploader, and a photo album manager allowing
you to organize your pictures however you'd like. As
long as you login to your account once per month, the
account and pictures will not be deleted. |
| |
|
| UploadImages.net
provides a free image uploading service that is compatible
with eBay, forums, and other auction sites. No sign-up
is required, and you can upload as many images as you
wish. There is evidentally no bandwidth limit, so your
pictures should always show up in your listings. Each
image can be a maximum of 1MB when uploaded. |
|
|
| QuikPiks Free
Image Hosting is a fast loading and easy-to-use image
hosting service. No registration is required, you merely
go to the site, click the Browse button, find
the image you want to upload, and then hit the Upload
button. Once uploaded, you will be given the picture
URL, and the appropriate HTML code to insert the image
into any HTML document (such as your ad). The images
are automatically removed after 14 days (long enough
to list even a 10 day auction), but the pictures must
be uploaded individually. |
| |
|
| This is a rather
unique service, in which you simply e-mail the photos
to the owner, and within minutes you will get back an
e-mail containing URLS you are to use in your auctions.
The images are stored on the server for 15 days, then
automatically removed. I was impressed with the speed
of this service, although there are limitations with
sending too many pictures through e-mail at a time. |
| |
|
| Deadzoom's
free image service is rather limited. You can
only use the free uploading service at certain hours
each day, and the links are only valid for 10 to 14
days. Deadzoom does offer membership (relatively cheap)
in which most limitations are gone. The owner of this
service is a regular on an eBay
chat, so he is relatively easy to get in contact
with. |
| |
|
| Printroom offers
free storage of up to 200MB, and the photos will work
on eBay's site. Navigation is sometimes time consuming
as there are quite a few steps in uploading and then
fully-previewing a picture. The photo link is very long
and may be incompatible with some browsers when used
on eBay. The main purpose of this site is to upload
and create prints of images. |
| |
|
| I figured I'd
mention eBay's own hosting service in this section.
The service itself has improved a lot since they got
rid of the old iPix service, but it is still quite costly
for what you get. The images are automatically resized
to 400 x 300, you have to pay extra for additional services
such as a slide-show or super-size, each picture after
the first costs more money, etc... I'd recommend trying
some of the other free or pay services. |
